At last Thursday’s monthly meeting of the Oconto
County Board of Supervisors, board members approved
Resolution 21 to award the Lakewood Trailhead
construction contract to Bayland Builders of Green
Bay for $409,120, not to exceed $416,000.
The county received two grants, one for a TV-1720
for $408,576 and RTA 3526 for $49,059 to develop the
Trailhead in Lakewood along the Nicolet State
Recreational Trail.
Bayland, the low bidder among 10, will construct a shingle roof building with custom built doors and frames which will include rest rooms on the trail close to the main Lakewood intersection of Hwy. 32 and Ço. Hwy. F. The Trailhead is viewed as a tourism economic stimulus for Northern Oconto Çounty for use by ATVs, snowmobiles and other all-terrain vehicles, it was learned.
The Forest Parks & Recreation Land Information Systems Sub Committee recommended the awarding of the bid to Bayland.
Construction is expected to begin in the near future.
Lakewood Town Chairman Tom Gryboski said the money not only will be used for construction of the building for heated rest rooms, but also for relocating the trail, and enlarging the parking lot which is almost directly across the street from the Firelite Lounge on Hyw. 32. The grant money was from the DNR, and was approved after the county submitted its grant requests.
